5.2 million dollar brain injury judgment

A Denver District Court judge awarded 5.2 million dollars to a 30 year-old man who sustained severe injuries including permanent physical impairment and permanent cognitive deficits.

3 million dollar wrongful death verdict

A Denver jury awarded three million dollars to the widow of a 49 year-old man whose family practice doctor failed to diagnose and treat lung cancer. The patient saw the doctor in order to follow up on an abnormal chest x-ray, and the doctor negligently advised him that the x-ray was not suggestive of cancer and that no further follow up treatment was needed.

2.2 million dollar birth injury settlement

The parents of a Cheyenne, Wyoming baby obtained a $2.2 million settlement from an obstetrician and a hospital. The mother had delivered her first child by Cesarean section, and, upon the advice of her obstetrician, was attempting a vaginal birth for her second child (VBAC). The fetal monitor strip showed signs of fetal distress, which went unnoticed by the labor and delivery nurse and the obstetrician. The mother’s uterus eventually ruptured, extruding the baby into the abdomen. Going without oxygen for several minutes, the baby suffered permanent brain damage.

1.85 million dollar birth injury settlement

The parents of a 3 year-old boy received a 1.85 million dollar settlement from a Denver obstetrician and a Denver hospital for injuries that the boy had received during his delivery. During the labor, the fetal heart rate monitor showed signs that the baby was in distress. However, there was a delay of several hours before the obstetrician finally decided to perform an emergency Cesarean section. The baby was born with severe neurologic injuries, including cerebral palsy.

1.75 million dollar wrongful death settlement

Our firm obtained a 1.75 million dollar settlement for the widower of a 30 year-old woman who died from a pulmonary embolism. The decedent had undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and shortly thereafter developed chest pain and shortness of breath. None of the physicians that she saw for her complaints ever ordered a ventilation/perfusion scan or any other diagnostic test to rule out deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary emboli. The woman died two weeks later as a result of multiple pulmonary emboli.

1.55 million dollar birth injury settlement

Our firm obtained a 1.55 million dollar settlement from an obstetrician and a hospital for a girl who suffered from cerebral palsy. The mother had delivered two previous children by Cesarean section and was attempting a vaginal delivery. The mother experienced uterine hyperstimulation and eventually a ruptured uterus. The baby was delivered by means of an emergency Cesarean section, but suffered brain injury as a result of lack of oxygen.

1.5 million dollar wrongful death settlement

An internal medicine doctor in Boulder, Colorado, and his professional corporation, paid 1.5 million dollars to settle a case involving the death of a 35 year-old man. The patient had received a chest x-ray pursuant to the doctor's request. The x-ray showed a nodule that was suspicious for cancer. No one ever informed the patient, and he thus received no treatment for three years. By that time, it was too late to save the patient's life. The patient is survived by his wife and one year-old daughter.

1.25 million dollar settlement

The Mahoney Law Firm obtained a 1.25 million dollar settlement on behalf of a man whose wife and unborn child died. The wife suffered from severe pregnancy induced hypertension (also referred to as pre-eclpampsia). Her physician failed to adequately diagnose and treat her condition, which led to her death.

1 million dollar medical malpractice settlement

A Denver man received one million dollars from an ear nose and throat surgeon who negligently performed endoscopic surgery.  The surgeon drilled too far into the patient's sinuses, creating a small hole in the skull, which then led to a cerebrospinal infection.
